Millennials expecting baby get roasted for asking neighbours to cook for them
Community. It’s really what makes the world go round. Everyone working towards a common cause, helping each other out in times of need and knowing that people will have your back when it’s most necessary. Of course, the one downside of community is that it’s open to abuse by cheeky f**kers who’ll take advantage of other people’s goodwill for their own benefit. A recent Twitter thread detailing some community requests from new parents shows how it can go wrong when people want to call on the community with no limit to their entitlement…
So, to give you a little bit of context, JJ, the author of the thread opens up by detailing the community group his local neighbourhood is involved in and that is supposed to be about alerting other locals to crime and stuff.
But, as with everything, someone has to come along and turn a good thing into a farce.
In this case, it was new parents-to-be, Jim and Alex Burns. They’re expecting a kid at the end of the month, and like most people they’re a bit nervous about it.
To help with what they think will be sleepless nights and an almost total inability to fend for themselves while raising their little cherub, they’ve started a Meal Train.
Meal Train is another crowdsourcing network that allows friends and family members to help those in need by providing, you guessed it, meals.
Jim and Alex didn’t want to ask their friends and family, though.
Yeah, nah, they’ve hit up the local neighbourhood.
In itself, that’s not so bad, there are often good Samaritans out there looking for human contact and a chance to help others.
But Jim and Alex don’t really want the social side of things. The post detailed in JJ’s thread, shows they just want people to cook and clean for them. In fact, they reckon it’d be great if people could just drop food off in a drop-off box and for them to reach out before they drop anything off ‘just to see if they need anything else!’
On top of that, the meals they’ve listed aren’t just your basic sandwiches and simple meals, they’ve got a f**ken list of recipes.
Final thought: We dunno about you, but we reckon this is more than a little bit entitled and lacking in social graces. You’ve gotta reckon Mummy and Daddy have done everything for them up till now. Anyway, how would you help ‘em out? Load up the comments with your ideas.
The week I got a thing in my mailbox to join a social network @Nextdoor. People in my neighborhood can alert each other about crime and stuff like that. Great idea! But today someone posted the most ridiculous thing ever (1/?)
