Step Brothers is still a fan-favourite and with quotes like this it’s easy to see why

For those of us of a certain vintage, it’s pretty bloody difficult to forget the glut of character-driven comedies popularised by the stars of Saturday Night Live. Some, obviously, were better than others, but you’ve got to admit that the sometimes crude humour of films like The Ladies Man, Happy Gilmore, Zoolander and Deuce Bigalow could be pretty friggen funny. Still, not many of those films can boast the number of piss-funny one-liners that Step Brothers had on offer. Deadset, in that one, it seemed like every scene was dropping pure fire.

If you haven’t seen it, or you don’t remember exactly how it played out, it’s pretty fair to say it’s one of Will Ferrell’s best. To be fair, it wouldn’t be a big call to say it might just be his best.

Starring Ferrell and John C. Reilly, it basically, tells the story of two stay-at-home middle-aged losers who are forced to become roommates when their parents marry.

An Empireonline review sums it up well by saying that, when Reilly and Ferrell are teamed up onscreen, they’re a superb double-act. “When the two are together, be it during an extended fight scene with a bunch of kids, or a demented sleepwalking sequence, the movie is a blast.”

It goes on to say that “Step Brothers is a hugely entertaining exercise in the comedy of the random, complete with improvised non-sequiturs, bonkers one-liners and a triumphant climactic sequence.”

It’s hard to argue with any of that, and there’s a reason you’ve probably got at least one or two mates who can quote plenty of the movie – if not all of it – verbatim.

Final thought: Have a good bloody look at these various one-liners and tell us you don’t want to go and watch the bloody thing now. Let us know your favourite – or, alternatively, let us know what other movies you can quote without even thinking about it.
