Duke Nukem’s getting a movie – and the creators of Cobra Kai are behind it!

F**ken Duke Nukem is one of the all-time great heroes of first-person shooters. Yeah, nah, while there’s probably a fair bit of debate about the best, and that’ll largely depend on your friendship group, in our neck of the woods, Duke Nukem, Doom, Quake, and bloody Wolfenstein were the most formative games of their type. Anyway, we’re getting distracted. The point is that there’s a Duke Nukem movie coming from the creators of Cobra Kai!

Just in case you’re not particularly knowledgeable about the Duke, his shtick was a fair dose of the ultra-violence, a hefty whack of homage to 80s action heroes, a s**tload of sass, and bloody tonne of fun. Yeah, nah, since 1991, the dude’s been blowing the f**k out of bad guys, and a movie is long overdue.

If you are knowledgeable about Nukem, you’ll know John Cena was once attached to the role of Duke Nukem when Paramount tried to get a film going. There’s no word yet on who’ll take the lead-role in this upcoming version.

S**t, there’s not even any word about the plot, but given that the games feature Nukem trying to save Los Angeles from an alien invasion, it’s a fair bet that the movie will do the same. And, seriously, let’s hope they do it in extremely violent fashion.

Now, if you’ve read this far, you’re probably wondering when we’re gonna talk about the Cobra Kai creators. That time is now. Josh Heald, Jon Hurwitz, and Hayden Schlossberg are on board to produce the film. At the moment, no writers or directors are attached, but these blokes, who are well known for leaning into the nostalgia of pre-existing franchises are in with a good shout of taking the reins.

If you’ve seen the way they’ve moved Karate Kid forward with Cobra Kai, that’ll be an exciting thought.

Final thought: Yeah, nah, we reckon a solid R-Rated Duke Nukem movie could be a bloody classic. Let us know what you reckon. Share your thoughts in the comment section and tell us who should play the lead. See you there!
