Guy takes fake book covers onto the train to see how people react

Trains are funny places. Despite the fact you’re often within close proximity of dozens of strangers, there’s an unspoken code of conduct that, in a weird way, makes them one of the politest places you’re likely to find. They’re almost like elevators in that way. Having said that, none of this means people aren’t nosy on trains. Tell me you don’t check out what other people are reading on the train. I know I do. Well, comedian Scott Rogowsky used this to his advantage when seeing how commuters would react to some unconventional book titles…

Yeah, nah, Rogowsky’s not interested in reading whatever book is lucky enough to have its film adaptation in the cinema right now. Whether that’s because he knows watching the movie of a book you’ve just read is usually an express journey to the metaphorical town of disappointment or because he’s in the middle of making a video for the internet, I’m not sure.

What we do know is that taking these books on the train is a ballsy idea. I can tell you right now that I’ve felt like I need to hide me Palahniuk novel from pricks who’d read over your shoulder on the train, but Rogowsky gets right amongst it.

101 Penis-Lengthening Tips You Can Do at Home, the Office, or On the Go; Ass Eating made Simple; Trump: The Art of F**king Your Daughter; and How To Hold in a Fart are just some of the titles of books he’s reading in this video – and he holds the often prominent titles up for all to see.

Apparently, this is all for the reactions, and to be honest, they don’t disappoint. While there’s nothing confrontational or extreme, the real joy of this is the discrete reactions of people on public transport. You know, they’re cataloguing what they’ve seen for a laugh once they’re in a place where it’s more acceptable to do that.

Those wry smiles though. They say more than words.

Final thought: It would be interesting to see this experiment conducted in a place not so well known for its diffident conduct. How would this go down somewhere like a bus-stop or a public park? Would the reactions be the same? It’d be bloody grouse to see someone question Rogowsky, that’s for sure.
