Grandma reveals unopened McDonalds meal kept in her cupboard from 1996

One of the longstanding myths of our time is the one about the fact a McDonalds burger contains so much preservative, it’ll never age. We’re not sure of the truth of that statement, but we reckon more than a few of you have heard it. That, though, is why we have science. Deadset, if the internet’s taught us anything, it’s that science isn’t for curing cancer, proving the existence of Bigfoot, or reaching out to other planets, it’s for doing quirky s**t that’s inherently watchable.

And that’s what’s brought us to this video. Yeah, nah, the prospect of a twenty-four-year-old Maccas burger has us clicking that link button with disturbing eagerness. If the editor’s didn’t change our original headline, you were probably brought here by the prospect of a Grandma showing off her well-preserved buns and hamburger meat. Don’t worry, we won’t judge.

Anyway, getting back to the story, TikTok user aly.sherb recently shared a video of her Grandma getting out her box. Yeah, deadset, give it a squiz. She busts out the old shoebox and opens it up to reveal a dry and crusty Maccas bag.

“You want to see my hamburger?” she asks. “It lives in a box in the cupboard.” Inside, she’s got a burger from 1996. Get this, though, she’s even still got the chips. The grandma, who’s apparently a science teacher, says, “The french fries look like they might have fallen under your seat around a month ago, they’ve never rotted or decayed.”

Showing off the rest of her goods, she breaks out the buns and the beef. “The hamburger itself: the bread has never moulded, the meat has never rotted. So, that’s the 24-year-old hamburger. Not sure what would happen if you ate it though.”
