Legend bloke designs off-road “wheelchair” so his wife could go places she never imagined

While it’s pretty tricky for us here to make claims about what it’s like to be in a wheelchair, it’s pretty apparent that for people who are in that position, a recent invention has removed one obstacle that might have been a bit of a pain in the arse. It’s a pretty bloody mintox vehicle they’re calling ‘not-a-wheelchair’ and it lets wheelchair-bound people get their arses out into the wild. Have a bloody gander…

Rightio, ya big bloody bewdiful legends. You know we love getting out into the wilds of our big bloody bewdiful country, and this thing might be opening up whole new vistas and avenues for people who previously couldn’t.

The invention came about when Zack Nelson welded two pushies together for his then-girlfriend Cambry. We’re sure it was a bit more complex than that, but the principle stands. That bloody thing was a raving success.

Cambry reckons it gave her a whole new level of freedom. Since then, though, the couple have married, and they love the bloody thing so much, they’ve decided to mass-produce the grouse bloody invention. They’re calling it The Rig.

As you can see from the footage, this thing is pretty f**ken versatile. Fully electric, they can travel about twenty kilometres per hour, can travel from 15 – 40 kilometres depending on battery usage, and is designed to fit in cars to be easily transportable.

It’s got a whole tonne of other cool functions, but we’re starting to sound like we’re selling it, so we’ll keep it brief. It can carry s**t, fit through most doorways, and as Zack and Cambry go to pains to point out, it’s designed to be affordable.

Zack says, “The toughest challenge when developing ‘Not-A-Wheelchair’ is the price. We wanted to create something that is affordable for everyone. Finding quality components, and a simple enough design at the cheapest price possible took quite a bit of time. But I think we have something now that everyone will be able to enjoy, at a fraction of the cost of other ‘off-road wheelchairs’ currently on the market.”

Final thought: Yeah, nah, this is f**ken grouse. If you or someone in your family has been aching to get out into the bush, but haven’t been able to because of accessibility, this could be your ticket to adventure. Let us know what you reckon in the Facebook comments.
