Grandma accidentally invited young bloke to thanksgiving in 2016, now an annual ritual
One of the greatest things about life is that it’s full of stories about finding friendship in unexpected places. Deadset, we’ve all been to places where we never expected to meet anyone, let alone a lifelong friend, but came away with a new bestie. One of the best stories like this that we know of is one that’s done the rounds on the internet a few times now. Still, it’s always worth checking in with Wanda Dench and Jamal Hinton. Their story is one for the ages…
If you don’t know about the backstory, all we can recommend is that you give the s**t a Google. Deadset, it’s fair dinkum famous, and it’s easy to see why. When bloody Wanda meant to send a text inviting her Grandson to Thanksgiving dinner, it arrived in Jamal’s inbox.

As you’ve probably figured out, the legend responded, and joined the family for some Thanksgiving tucker. Now, six years on, they’re doing it for the sixth year in a row. Jamal’s recently tweeted about it. Have a squiz.

Sharing an image of the invite, he’s posted that, ‘We are all set for year 6!’
The text he shared said: “It would bring me great joy if you, Mikaela and your family would come to my house on Thanksgiving to share good food and great conversation. Your friend always, Wanda.”

This exchange was a far cry from the original. Back then, he told her she wasn’t his Grandma, but asked if he could get a plate anyway. Wanda, being the legend she is, was like, ‘f**k yeah, bro.’
Since then, they’ve all become solid friends, even sticking together once Wanda’s husband Lonnie passed away due to Covid 19 last year.
