“World Naked Gardening Day” is a thing and we’ve got the bloody best bits here

We’re gonna hazard a guess and say that there’s at least a few of you out there in the comments section who’ve got a ‘weird’ mate on Facebook who gets their gear off for something called ‘World Gardening Day’ every year. We’ll also guess that you’re not quite sure whether this mate of yours is taking the Mickey or whether it’s a legit thing. Well, guess what, it is a legit thing, and people all over the world love getting their kits off for it.

Now, obviously, we’re not just busting this one out without any reason.

The whole thing happens on the first Saturday of May, and if you do have one of those mates, you might have noticed they were at it again this weekend.

The event, which was birthed back in 2005 is pretty self-explanatory: People from all over the world pick off and head out into the yard and do some gardening.

The Facebook page dedicated to the event reckons it’s important to get everyone involved in the celebrations because, “Gardening has a timeless quality, and anyone can do it: young and old, singles or groups, the fit and infirm, urban and rural. An elderly lady in a Manhattan apartment can plant new annuals in her window box. Families can rake leaves in their back yard. Freehikers can pull invasive weeds along their favourite stretch of trail. More daring groups can make rapid clothes-free sorties into public parks to do community-friendly stealth cleanups.”

As for why they reckon you should try gardening with ya kit off, they say, “First of all, it’s fun! Second only to swimming, gardening is at the top of the list of family-friendly activities people are most ready to consider doing el-naturale.

“Moreover, our culture needs to move toward a healthy sense of both body acceptance and our relation to the natural environment. Gardening with ya kit off is not only a simple joy, it reminds us–even if only for those few sun-kissed minutes–that we can be honest with who we are as humans and as part of this planet.”

Final thought: Yeah, look, we’re gonna keep it simple. If you got involved, whack some photos into the Facebook comments section. No matter your size, shape, or location, we wanna see how many of you cheeky buggers are already across this one.
