UV light shows just how messy a standing pee is

One of the greatest things about being a male is the ability to take a leak standing up and then shake it off when you’re done. It might seem minor, but it truly is a blessing. It adds unbridled freedom to life. Need to take a leak while you’re out? Just find a tree and go for it. Unfortunately, like everything that seems too good to be true, it does have a drawback. As evidenced by a recent experiment under UV lights, it’s grotty as hell…

Inspired by the age old debate over whether or not men should put the seat down or not, QS Supplies decided they wanted to find out whether or not men should be lifting the seat at all. Here’s their logic:

“Much of water closet controversy comes from women’s exasperation at men when they sometimes leave the seat up. But here’s an arguably more fundamental question to consider – should men ever lift the seat to allow for standing urination, or should the toilet strictly be something we sit on, not aim at?”

They figured out that most men stand up to pee and that raises some questions about splashback. Their website explains that, “Every time a man pees into a toilet bowl while standing, thousands of droplets, most of which are small and can’t be easily spotted, bounce and fly around the bowl onto the underside of the seat (if it’s up) and even further afield.”

They spent six weeks measuring and recording splashback and their findings are pretty gross. They found out that some 30 per cent of blokes pee on the back of the dunny because they think it will minimise the mess. Unfortunately, that’s the worst spot.

Finally, they figured out that by the time you’ve drained the lizard ten times, you’ve covered the pisser, the floor and nearby surfaces with urine. Yuck!

Final thought: As to whether or not you should sit to pee, there are two things to keep in mind. Most sheilas think that’s unmanly, but it is way cleaner. Let us know what you plan to do with this news in the comments.
