Japan has a robot sumo wrestling league and it’s bloody intense
When you think of sumo wrestling, you probably don’t think of words like ‘speed’ or ‘agility’, and that’s okay. Not all sports have to be about pace and deftness. Sometimes leverage and power is important, but it seems like nobody told that to the dudes behind Japanese Sumo Robots. Deadset, these things are nothing like you’d expect. Yeah, nah, they’re tiny little remote-controlled car sized machines and they zip around their ring with speed that’s bloody frightening.
Before we get into it, you should probably know that the extent of our sumo knowledge comes from Fat Bastard in Austin Powers, Street Fighter and that dude in the original WWF who used to choc-nose his opponents when he had them up against the turnbuckle.
Bearing that in mind, if we’ve said anything you disagree with, just point it out in the comments section like a normal rational person and we’ll all take it on board.
That said, let’s get to the robots. Have a look at these shovel-nosed little buggers. Technically, they’re called sumobots, and from what we can gather, they’re autonomous. Yeah, apparently, remote-controlled ones aren’t allowed.
Of course, once you watch these little pricks try to f**k each other in the exhaust-pipe, you’ll understand pretty quickly that for someone to use a remote-controlled sumobot, they’d need to be The Flash.
Seriously, if you’ve ever tried to swat a fly and it’s just bloody teleported to another spot, that’s what these things are like. Have a squiz at the video below. There’s a whole s**tload of sumobot battles in here, but from what we can gather no one’s throwing salt around.
In particular, we like the one with the big wing shovel thingamabob and the one that s**ts its battery out and waits for death. Sometimes, life’s like that.
Final thought: Look, this is one of those things you’ve gotta love Japan for. These robot sumo is frigging awesome. Have a bloody squiz and let us know your thoughts in the comments section.
