Internet uproar after Instagram model ‘confronted an armed robber’ naked

We all know that concepts like reality and truth can be warped and twisted online. The s**t happens every day, and it’s not hard to see why. In the endless battle for attention, the online media – just like the offline media – can resort to sensationalism. Being aware of that’s a good thing. A bit of critical thinking never goes astray. However, it’s possible to be too critical and to become cynical. Once that happens, you run the risk of believing nothing you see online, and that might be almost as bad as believing everything…

The reason we bring this up is the recent furore with Instasheila Danii Banks and footage of her, in the buff, confronting an alleged armed robber in her house. While Banks is adamant it happened, she’s also pretty f**ken annoyed that some people claim it was all a stunt.

When TMZ got hold of the story, they savaged her claims, and in response, she said, “I woke up to my incident on TMZ. I have to say one thing. This world is a disgusting place. For people to even say I could make this up or it was staged is a disgusting thing.”

The footage shows the alleged robber brandishing a gun as he approaches her and tells her to get on the floor. Now, the part that some are alleging makes this staged is that not only was Banks bare arse showing, but no faces seem to have been captured on camera, and the robber is, according to TMZ, ‘confused.’

“I was in shock and the video was from a dog camera hence why there are no faces. It points down!!! It only records the first time it detects motion. That’s why I don’t have more video clips,” Banks explained.

Apparently, Banks also claims the robber was tipped off to something in her house, and that she always sleeps in her birthday suit. “He couldn’t find it and that’s why he didn’t take anything else. That’s all he wanted. My apartment is small. When I heard a noise, I jumped up to walk out and see wtf was happening. I was sleeping naked which is normal.”

Final thought: As you’ll have seen if you checked out the original article, the police filed a report on the incident and Banks’s door was forced open, which suggests something did actually happen. Having sai that, the action in the video does seem a bit subdued, and we reckon most people would throw on a dressing gown or shirt, but that doesn’t automatically make it bulls**t. We’re leaving this one with a question mark over it, but we’d love to know what you blokes reckon.
