Couple get hitched in first Viking wedding in almost 1000 years

The f**ken Vikings! Considering they’re popularly known to be vicious, visceral and violent, most of you probably think of attacks on isolated monasteries, horned helmets and awesome television shows when you think of Vikings, but these legendary historic figures had another side too. They were pretty bloody lenient with women’s rights, they loved poetry and epic sagas, and sometimes, just sometimes, they even fell in love! And that, my friends, is what takes us to the shores of a Norwegian lake…

Yes, yes, that’s right, we’re going to a f**ken wedding. Suit up, sort out ya mullet and whack on ya best pluggers, because you need to be looking your best for this wedding – it’s a bloody special one. Yeah, Elisabeth and Rune Dalseth from Norway, the land of Vikings and black metal, hosted a wedding completely inspired by a historic Viking ceremony.

They rocked up on the shores of a picturesque-as-f**k lake on specially built longboats, and invited a gothi (Viking priest) and throat singers to serenade them in proper fashion. On top of that, not only did they don full traditional Viking dress, they also celebrated with some pretty traditional pagan rituals – including a blot ceremony that saw them bust out the cauldron of pig’s blood. They then drizzled that sh*t all over small figures representing the gods.

Of course, the ceremony was finished with a full-on Viking party. 130 guests swilled honey beer and enjoyed traditional Norse song and dance. It’s safe to say the neighbours – if there were any – would have been bloody brave if they complained.

Final thought: If weddings are supposed to be an awesome day to remember, you’d have to say they don’t come much more memorable than this one. With claims that this is the first proper Viking wedding in 1000 years doing the rounds, it’s a fair bet the photos will be treasured by all. Good shit!
