Incredible underground salt mine in Poland needs to be seen to be believed

Unless you’re travelling to Destination F**ked, international travel’s probably gonna be bit pretty bloody minimal for the foreseeable future. Still, thanks to the internet, books, movies, and a solid imagination, you can still get a little bit of escapism in. To help you with that, we thought we’d show you a bunch of epic photos from a UNESCO World Heritage-listed salt mine in Poland.

We’re gonna guess that you’re first thought at hearing the phrase ‘salt mine’ included was something along the lines of ‘get me the f**k out of here.’ That’s okay, we get it, but we also reckon you should know us better than that.

We wouldn’t go showing you a bunch of boring s**t. This isn’t just us any old mine. Yeah, nah, you might be aware that some of Europe’s salt-mines are pretty f**ken shmick, but according to plenty of reports, the Wieliczka salt mine, near Krakow in Poland is the duck’s f**ken nuts.

Yeah, nah, this joint’s fair dinkum pimped out. At its deepest point, it’s 1072 feet below ground, and it’s also got a s**tload of cool features like underground lakes, 2,000 chambers, and chapels equipped with enormous chandeliers. And it’s all made of salt.

First opened in the thirteenth century, it’s changed from being one of the country’s most important economical locations to being a tourist attraction, but even back in the day, it drew a visit from bloody Copernicus. You knew the bloke who said, ‘yeah, nah, the sun’s at the centre of the universe; not us.’

All that aside, though, the mine’s just f**ken bewdiful. Have a squiz at some of the chapels and s**t that it’s got hiding within its depths.

Just, while you’re in there, keep an eye out for balrogs, cave trolls and kobolds.
