Sacha Baron Cohen opens up about how he sneaked past security in Trump fat suit

It’s no secret that we bloody love Sacha Baron Cohen here at Ozzy Man Reviews. Yeah, nah, we’ve gone on record before and said that we reckon that having him in the age of social media is solid bloody gold. The reason for that is pretty bloody simple: he’s not afraid to take his satire straight to the issues that need it most. With that said, here’s how he got into a Mike Pence speech by wearing a Trump fat suit…

The incident, which is featured in the new Borat movie, made local news back in February when it happened. At the time, it was reported that a Trump impersonator had interrupted Pence’s speech, but the extent of that interruption wasn’t really made clear.

With parts of the scene now appearing in the trailer for the new Borat movie, Cohen has spoken about it. “I spent five hours in makeup that morning with the prosthetic team changing my face into Trump’s face. This fat suit is huge. It’s a 56-inch fat suit to turn my waist into Trump’s because we had estimated that was the most realistic.”

In the scene, Cohen is playing Borat wearing the fat suit as he tries to gift the character’s daughter to Pence. “Michael Pen-is, I brought a girl for you!” he shouts while gesturing at his ‘daughter’. While we’re not sure how that all pans out, Cohen’s logic behind the scene is almost as important as his reason for releasing the movie right before the US election.

“We wanted it to be a reminder to women of who they’re voting for — or who they’re not voting for. If you’re a woman and you don’t vote against this guy, then know what you’re doing for your gender.”

He’s also added that while he’s always been happy to satirize everyone, the need to stand up against the US’s inexorable slide into fascism under Trump is something he can’t abide.

“In 2005, you needed a character like Borat who was misogynist, racist, anti-Semitic to get people to reveal their inner prejudices,” he told the New York Times. “Now those inner prejudices are overt. Racists are proud of being racists.”

Final thought: As we said earlier, Cohen is a bloody treasure, and we can’t wait for this one. Hopefully the film is effective in achieving its goal to influence voters ahead of the election. It’s a bloody important one.
