Bloody huge Knights Templar church found hidden beneath farmer’s field

If you’ve got any interest at all in medieval history or conspiracy theories, you might know a thing or two about the Knights Templar. S**t, if you’ve played Assassin’s Creed, you might even know about them anyway. Basically, this is a group whose legacy has literally lasted for centuries. Finds like this one only help to keep that going…

Yeah, nah, this cheeky sect of the Catholic church is pretty well-renowned for being a clandestine order of knights who made a s**t-tonne of pilgrimages, established a f**kload of financial networks, and fought heaps of battles.

What they found is bloody amazing.

So you can imagine a local farmer was pretty f**ken surprised when he had a peek inside a rabbit warren and realised there was more to it than initially meets the eye. He set to excavating it and found he was standing on a previously unseen temple used by the Knights Templar.

When photographer Michael Scott heard tell of a long-hidden templar stronghold beneath a Shropshire farmer’s field, he had to check it out. Now, much like the group themselves, the exact location of the stronghold – used by the Knights Templar as far back as 700 years ago – is kept a bit more secret than it used to be.

Yeah, nah, apparently, local dickheads decided to graffiti the joint and dump rubbish through the opening, forcing the owners of the land it was on to close shop to the general public.

Those in the know, though, are able to arrange access. Scott did just that, taking some remarkable photos of the old temple. The whole thing seems to be modelled on the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, the supposed burial place of Christ.

Final thought: It just goes to show that the world is full of bloody mystery. Yeah, nah, this is f**ken awesome. Imagine what wonders might be hiding in plain sight – or under the ground – in the area where you’re chilling right now. Deadset. There could be all sorts of cool s**t out there!
