Netflix leak reveals release date for Black Mirror season 5

When it comes to modern science-fiction anthologies, not many do it better than Black Mirror. The show’s become one of Netflix’s best genre-offerings, and it appeals to people from all walks of life. Blending the socially aware sensibilities of Philip K Dick and the horror-tinged cynicism of Brad Bradbury’s best perspectives on technology with the sneering tone of Palahniuk, the show tackles a range of themes relevant to the world we live in. Perhaps that’s why those of us who’ve been waiting patiently for more news about the upcoming fifth season are a little bit pumped about a glitch in the matrix that’s leaked the release date…

If you’ve been into Black Mirror for a while, you’ve probably noticed more and more people talking about it lately. Sh*t, we’ve even posted about it on Ozzy Man Reviews before. There’s a reason for that. Word of mouth is spreading and the show is good. Like, really, really good.

Anyway, it seems that a verified Netflix Twitter account accidentally posted the release date for the new season – along with a bunch of other cool new releases – before deleting the tweet shortly after. Fortunately, one perceptive bloke saw it quickly enough to get excited and share the news for everyone else.

It seems the first episode of the new season will be called Bandersnatch. That information ties in with an older piece of news from April that said Black Mirror was filming an episode titled exactly that. Now, while it’s probably not super-important as we all know that the show can take things in many different directions, a bandersnatch is either an uncouth bastard or an imaginary wild animal that’s particularly grumpy.

The more astute among you will know Lewis Carroll, the dirty old perv behind beloved children’s classic Alice Through the Looking Glass, coined the term for that very novel in 1871.

Anyway, back to Black Mirror. The tweet’s been deleted, but if the new season’s coming that soon, that’s a particularly f**ken awesome Christmas present. As for what we know about the show, we know there’ll be an episode set in the eighties and, quite possibly, a Choose Your Own Adventure-style episode.

Final thought: As mentioned above, this is bloody great news. If you haven’t watched an episode of the show before, now’s the time to get up to speed with the tone and style of it. Also of note in that leak, is the date the adaptation of Josh Malerman’s Bird Box will go to air. That one’s not exactly a secret, but if it’s anywhere near as good as the book, it’ll be a f**ken doozy.
