Aussie Navy sets up ship to house families with pets who lost homes in bushfires

Amidst all this talk of the fires and the f**ken carnage they’ve been wreaking on our big bewdiful country, we’ve spoken plenty about the wildlife, but we haven’t had too much of a yarn about the pets. If you’ve had a bit of a think about it, you probably realise that s**t’s pretty hectic on that count – as it is on all the others – but with a little bit of help from the Navy, these evacuees fled with their pets, and the pictures’ll hit you right in the feels!

You probably remember Mallacoota from the blood red sky that loomed ominously above it a few days ago. The footage of the dude on his boat was from Mallacoota, and as you no doubt recall, it was a frightening bloody sky, and plenty took to the lake for safety.

Well, thanks to the Navy, plenty of those residents who got the f**k out of town were able to do so with their pets. Don’t get us wrong, we’re pretty sure most of ‘em would have insisted, but the service-men and women of the HMAS Choules set the vehicle bay up as a proper place to keep the four-legged members of the family.

Kristine Daniels posted a s**tload of images to the Mallacoota Community News Facebook page, and we’re bloody glad she did. We all know that our pets are pretty bloody attuned to disasters – and fireworks – so it would have been a bloody terrifying experience for them too.

In the post, Daniels said, “We evacuated on the HMAS Choules on Friday. The ship kindly set up the vehicle bay for pets and their owners throughout the 30 hours. Here are pix – it’s amazing how pets bring out our humanity.”

F**en oath, Kristine. F**ken oath!

Final thought: This warms our bloody hearts. We’d be heartbroken if we had to leave the animals behind, so we reckon the Navy’s played a blinder here. Right when those critters and their owners need each other most, they’ve come to the bloody rescue. F**ken good s**t, boys, girls and everyone else of the HMAS Choules. You’re a top bunch!
