This Is The Fastest Title Fight KO In Boxing History
WBO bantamweight champion boxer Zolani Tete has broken the world record for the shortest world title fight defence in history this week, after knocking Siboniso Gonya out in just eleven seconds to retain his WBO strap. The former IBF junior bantamweight champion is well known for his lightning-fast hands and crushing power, having won 21 of his 26 victories by way of knockout.
This is the kind of guy you never want to piss off, because you’re likely to end up waking up with a headache or just plain not waking up at all.
This guy starches people so hard that they need an OXYGEN MASK just to get up after the shots he’s landed on them.
The South African pugilist claims to have had over four hundred amateur fights and is alleged to have only lost three of them.
The twenty-nine-year-old ripped his opponent with an absolutely devastating right hook only six seconds into the bout in Belfast, Ireland at the SSE Arena. It looked like it didn’t just kill Gonya, but also sent a shockwave down through his bloodline. The referee recognised within five seconds that the fight was 100% over when he looked down and saw that Gonya resembled more of a corpse than a world title challenger.
The record that Tete broke with his amazing knockout power was just six seconds longer than this fight. The old record was recorded by Daniel Jimenez, the former WBO super-bantamweight champ, who knocked Harald Geier out in just seventeen seconds all the way back in 1994. It’s taken over TWENTY years for someone to get knocked out faster in a world title fight.
That’s even faster than UFC lightweight champion Conor McGregor’s knockout over Jose Aldo to win the featherweight belt back in December of 2015. McGregor shocked the world and shot to fame when he recorded the thirteen-second knockout win over his Brazilian rival, the fastest knockout in UFC title fight history.
Tete definitely looked like he knew he had it in the bag as soon as he turned his back to Gonya. He doesn’t even bother looking back in the video, he’s got that much bloody confidence in his knockout power that he can just walk back to his corner and smile at the crowd.
