Woman Asks Amazon’s Alexa If It Works For The CIA, The Internet Goes Wild At Response
The CIA’s had their hands in a lot of cookie jars over the years, with many members of the public beginning to fear just how much they may be spied on in their day to day lives.
Surfing the web while you’re on the toilet at work? The CIA might have heard that. Listening to Britney Spears in the car when you tell your mates you’re a big fan of heavy metal? A CIA intern is probably laughing his ass off somewhere.
At least that’s what some people will have you believe.
Earlier in the week a number of CIA documents were leaked by Wikileaks, which has sent conspiracy theorists into overdrive. The documents reveal that the CIA uses hacking tools to attack smart TV’s, phone and other computing devices, and that the CIA had “lost control” of a massive library of hacking tools and techniques. Some of the archived library has been passed on to Wikileaks.
As more and more of our devices remain connected to the internet, the question remains… Just who could be looking back at us or listening to us through our laptop and smartphones?
Footage has surfaced on Reddit of an anonymous woman asking Amazon’s new Alexa device “Would you lie to me?” and “Alexa, are you connected to the CIA?”
The nifty virtual assistant answered the first question without hesitation, but then shut down as soon as it was asked about being connected to the CIA. The unit shut down again when the woman repeated her questions.
Amazon has stated that the issue was a “technical glitch” and that Alexa’s correct response would be “No, I work for Amazon.” In the video, the virtual assistant says “I am not always right, but I would never intentionally lie to you or anyone else.”
The product is supposed to respond with “Sorry, I can’t find an answer to the questions I heard” when it has an issue, as opposed to shutting down when it does not understand a line of questioning.
