Tourist kicked out of restaurant for ‘unacceptable’ outfit

In a world where the lines between right and wrong, good and bad, and acceptable and unacceptable are becoming ever more blurred, you might wonder just how unacceptable an outfit has to be before it can be deemed inappropriate. Well, turns out the answer is confusing. Yeah, nah, have a look at this one and let us know, because we’re not sure what’s gone on.

So, basically, the sheila in this story – a tourist to Bondi – was kicked out of a fish n chip shop for her inappropriate outfit. According to her version of events, a staff-member and a manager f**ked her off because their dress-code was ‘smart-casual’ and she was deemed to be out of line.

Martina Corradi went on Facebook to get opinions on her outfit:

“The waitress as soon as I took a sit she said that I’m not well dressed and this is not acceptable to stay in a place like that! (I mean a fish and chips, in front of the beach)…She call the manager and she asked him to tell me that this is not how I should dress to go to a restaurant, front of everyone.”

Now, while the outfit’s a little revealing, we were kind of under the impression that smart casual at the beach meant pluggers, singlet and stubbies. When did that change?

Anyway, it turns out that the restaurant has changed their mind and decided to opt for good publicity instead. The chippy’s General Manager released the following statement:

“We have reviewed the incident and acknowledge that it was an error of judgment to ask Martina and her partner to leave the restaurant. We have since contacted Martina, apologised for the error in judgment and invited her and her partner back to enjoy lunch or dinner on us.

We uphold a casual dress code and it is clear that Martina should not have been asked to leave. As a result, we will be retraining all of our staff and management on our protocols including dress code.”

Final thought: Jokes aside, it’s an interesting moment, and we don’t have the answers, even if we do long for the days when three bucks worth of chips and a serve of calamari could feed a family. So, with that said, what do you lot reckon? Was Martina’s outfit too much?
