‘Band of Brothers’ Had One of The Greatest Casts Ever, And You Didn’t Realise
How about we grab a brewski, take a seat on the patio and talk bloody television for a bit? You guys down with that? I know I am. We’re going to avoid the big shows everyone is always talking about – me included – and we’re going to talk about a modern classic. One of the shows that really raised the bar in terms of quality for what most experts now talk about as the ‘golden age’ of television that we’re lucky enough to be living through: Band of Brothers.
The Steven Spielberg and Tom Hanks produced epic was one of the first television shows to go big with the budget. The results were spectacular. The battle scenes were huge, the research was meticulous and the show was a cracker. And what about the cast? Damian Lewis of Homeland, Michael ‘Mag-f*****g-Neto’ Fassbender, Tom ‘Mad f*****g Max’ Hardy, David ‘Ross from f*****g Friends’ Schwimmer…the list goes on and on and you get the point.
Well, LADbible is positing a theory that Band of Brothers has the best television cast of all time. They reckon we didn’t know it at the time due to the age of most of the guys and their relative ‘newness’ to our screens, but judging by what lots of the cast has done since, they’re right about the quality of the actors on board. Obviously you’ve got the two previously mentioned megastars (you can work out which ones are which) but there’s also Simon Pegg of Shaun of the Dead, Dominic Cooper who plays Jesse Custer in Preacher, James ‘Professor X’ McAvoy and loads more.
Is it the best cast ever? I dunno. It’s a big call. Especially because at the time a lot of these guys were pretty much unknown – and it could be argued the show set them up for their success. I’m sure the Game of Thrones guys will continue to take up space on movie screens, televisions and whatever holographic media constitutes the future of entertainment. Will they go on to more success than these guys? It’s hard to tell. That doesn’t even take into account the hundreds of other shows making up the golden age of television.
At times like this, it’s probably a good idea to put it over to you guys. What do you think is the best television cast ever? Which shows have casts that will go on to bigger and better things? Post your thoughts on Facebook and let me know.
