How to make friends: the social distancing edition
By now, we’re becoming more and more familiar with the burgeoning friendships – and relationships – that are being made possible by social distancing. It’s one of those beautiful ironies of life that’s becoming more apparent every day. Despite the fact we’re ‘more connected than ever’ with the internet, the enforced social distancing occurring in some countries is really demonstrating how important real human contact and friendship is. In today’s story, meet a couple of people who’ve struck up a new friendship since they were placed in quarantine!
While we don’t have too much concrete info on the who, what, where, when and why of all this one, we’ve gotta say it’s pretty apparent when you look at the images. The story appeared on Reddit’s Humansbeingbros subreddit, and it’s well worth a look.
Apparently, someone with the handle Rustycougarmama was bored while working on their thesis. As you’ll see, Rustycougarmama (Steve) was longing for some human connection. Thankfully, the offer of friendship was enthusiastically met.
As the title of the thread, Rustycougarmama said, “So I sit at my desk all day and do school work/work-work, and there’s a guy in the apartment building next to mine that does the same. We sometimes make eye contact. Yesterday I had enough; time to make some friends, social distance style!”
Anyway, have a bloody squiz. It’s a great little read, even if you do have to wrap your brain around the way some of it’s written. Yeah, nah, we know it’s ripe for the meme, but the spirit of the whole thing still stands: Rustycougarmama is making friends.
Final thought: Let us know what messages you’d post to your neighbours. Of course, no phones allowed, it’s gotta be on A4 paper. Post your responses in the Facebook comments. Till then, f**ken ooroo, ya legends.
