Redditors who have been clinically dead share their ‘afterlife’ experiences
Death. Going beyond the veil, crossing the Jordan, biting the big one, kicking the bucket, pushing up daisies, becoming food for worms or joining the great majority; whatever you want to call it, it’s the end.
It’s the culmination of all you’ve ever seen, done, experienced or thought…and just like T-Bird says in The Crow, ‘there ain’t no coming back!’ Except when there is.
Right, while most people are in agreement that there ain’t no coming back, usually reserving that sort of shenanigans for Eric Draven, zombies, whatever came back in place of Gage Creed, and Jesus, some people do claim to have died and come back, and the medical profession is in agreement. This can happen.
When you take into account that riding the pale horse, taking a dirt nap, joining the whisperers and wearing a pine overcoat is a f**ken huge part of life and is revered, celebrated and memorialised in many different ways in many different cultures, it’s pretty understandable that blokes and blokettes everywhere are pretty bloody curious as to what exactly it feels like to take that final one way trip – and then sneak the f**k back on the return journey.
Former Pantera vocalist (and vocalist of a thousand other bands), Phil Anselmo was ‘clinically dead’ for four-five minutes after a lethal heroin overdose in 1996.
He’s gone on the record to say, “Make no mistake, I have died before…if you can imagine how you felt before you were born, it was that level of insignificance and impossibility.” That’s a bloody dark perspective, but fortunately, the infamous rocker isn’t the only one.
A recent Reddit thread was loaded up with posts from people who’ve been there, done it, and returned to post their experiences online. Plenty of other people share the experiences of others who’ve been pronounced clinically dead only to stage the ultimate revival.
Have a read of their words and see what you think.
Final thought: Young Hamlet, the one-time Prince of Denmark, said it best when he spoke of the ‘undiscover’d country from whose bourn, no traveller returns. “..for in that sleep of death what dreams may come when we have shuffled off this mortal coil, must give us pause…”
And that’s just it, isn’t it? Who really knows what the f**k happens when you finally cark it? All we know is until we find out, those thoughts must give us pause…with that in mind, let’s hope it’s a long time before any of you wankers do find out! Here’s to a long life, good health, and plenty of good yarns to spin at the end of it!
