NASA Engineer builds bird feeder obstacle course to stump stealing Squirrels

You probably know that we love a bit of Mark Rober here at Ozzy Man Reviews, and why wouldn’t we? The former NASA and Apple engineer creates f**ken great internet content that’s always worth a watch. Deadset, whether he’s testing just how much blood in the water attracts sharks, glitter-bombing thieves, or creating safe drinking water, he’s a f**ken gun. With all that in mind, there’s no way we’re not checking out his squirrel-proof birdfeeder!

Like everyone, Rober’s found himself stuck at home during the quarantine, and he felt the need to entertain himself with a birdfeeder. As he explains in the video, it didn’t take him long to realise that squirrels are f**ken clever little b**tards who are well-practiced at breaking into birdfeeders.

After watching them outsmart three birdfeeders, he admits that, “on some level, this is what it felt like when someone stole a package that didn’t belong to them.” Of course, though, this is Rober, so there was only one solution. Yeah, nah, as he says, “If I could design a package to deter thieves, could I design a birdfeeder to deter squirrels?”

After weeks of planning, he finally settled on a design. This bewdy included slippery poles they couldn’t climb, a bridge of instability, the maze of a thousand corridors, pitchfork tumblers (like the ones on Wipeout), trapdoors, slinky-corridors, and a catapult.

From here, we’re going to let you watch exactly how it pans out, while refraining from spoiling it for you, but we will touch on one of Rober’s final thoughts. “When I started this two-month long adventure…I had no idea I would enjoy squirrel-watching so much more.”

We can see why!

Final thought: We don’t know about you lot, but we could watch content like this for bloody hours. These little critters are fair dinkum amazing, and in a way, we’re almost sorry we don’t have them here in Ozzyland. If you’ve got stories of your own, let us know!
