Bloke gets locked inside closed “24-hour gym”

When you’re a kid, the idea of getting locked inside a shopping centre overnight is a pretty f**ken exciting one. As you get older, though, you really start to fang for your own bed, and the idea of being locked anywhere overnight doesn’t have the appeal it used to. Just ask the Utah bloke who found himself locked in the gym after closing time. Yeah, nah, faced with the choice of staying there for a sleepover or getting the f**k out, he only had one option…

Rightio, the bloke in this story is Dan Hill. Dan’s the kinda bloke who loves the gym. Deadset, this bloke loves the gym so much, he decided to go to his 24-hour gym and make use of the facilities at an ungodly hour of the night. Of course, despite its name, the gym wasn’t a 24-hour gym at all, and Dan found himself locked in.

First up, this gym’s name is 24 Hour Fitness. The company has explained how they can be a ’24 Hour Fitness’ and remain closed between midnight and 4am, but still, the point remains. Dan got himself locked in.

Fortunately for Dan, though, it only took him 19 minutes to get out. Yeah, nah, this is the joy of mobile phone technology, right? In this day and age, you just call security and tell ‘em to open the bloody door. Obviously, that’s what Dan did, but he made sure he went to Facebook first. After all, the spirit of being locked in somewhere after hours still endures!

“I am literally locked inside 24 Hour Fitness right now,” he wrote on Facebook. Naturally, he also uploaded some photos to prove it. That’s because, as he later told news crews, “I just thought it was kinda funny at the start. You know, it was kinda like Home Alone.”

Funnily enough, even his wife wasn’t too bothered. She just laughed and told him to “find a comfortable place to sleep.”

Dan didn’t do that, though. As we mentioned, technology makes that unnecessary – and also completely negates the premise of Home Alone. That’s probably why Dan uploaded another picture after his 19-minute ordeal. He took a selfie with the cops who let him out, commenting, “Free at last!”

For what it’s worth, 24 Hour Fitness commented on the situation, saying, “We made the decision recently to close select clubs in the overnight hours of 12:00 to 4:00 a.m. based upon low usage. We clearly did not do a good job of our closing procedures for this club on Saturday night and will reinforce our club procedures so that this incident doesn’t occur in the future.”

Final thought: We know that when you actually look at the time Dan spent there that it seems horrifyingly long in an age of instant gratification, but thankfully the cops were on hand to save him from a painful ordeal. Anyway, what would you gym-junkies do in his situation?
