Elderly Slayer Fan Experiences First Mosh Pit – From Her Wheelchair!

Whether or not you’re into your metal, there’s a good chance you’ve heard of the band Slayer. As one of the true iconic veterans of the genre, they’ve sold millions of records, inspired countless imitators, and even had their music featured on South Park (when Cartman needed to disperse hippies). Just as one of their fans famously carved the band’s name into his arm, the band will certainly leave a mark on the world of rock music when they retire at the end of their current world tour.

You might remember a while back that a bloke tried to swim back into a metal show after being ejected. The band he wanted to see? Slayer. With their final tour taking place right now, it seems like the band’s fans are desperate to mark it in style – and make sure it’s one to remember.

If you’ve seen Slayer play live, you probably know what the fans are like. The only time I’ve seen pepper spray used was after a Slayer show at Brisbane’s Botanic Gardens. Their fans, it seems, can get pretty f**ken rowdy. On top of that, with the band’s first album being released in 1981, the band’s fans can be getting up there in years.

And a video shared online after their show in Nampa, Idaho, shows a legendary old duck entering the mosh pit in her f**ken wheelchair! The woman’s son-in-law posted this description with the video: “I took my mother-in-law to the Slayer farewell tour as she is an old metal head. She had never in all her years been into a mosh pit. I feel everyone should experience it at least once, so I took her in her wheelchair and asked a couple of big guys to help me keep her safe and off we went. She had the best time of her life.”

It’s a shame the sound quality isn’t great, but this video shows the soft-side of heavy metal fans – and a legendary sheila enjoying her first mosh pit. Probably something she thought she’d never manage.

Final thought: What’s most impressive here is that while metal heads are often demonised and are popularly represented as bullies, criminals or scumbags, anyone who knows metal heads or has been to plenty of shows knows they actually have a real sense of community. Nothing shows that like a whole bunch of people supporting this chick and keeping her safe while she goes into the pit. F**ken good on ya, metal. Good on ya, wheelchair chick!
