Woman’s smartphone photos of hardworking Ants has been awarded

F**ken ants are pretty rad little creatures. Deadset, they might sting like buggery when they bite, but you can’t take anything away from their industrious nature, community spirit, and ability to lift heavy things. By the same token, you’ve gotta give credit where it’s due and admit that mobile phones are probably one of the single most powerful inventions of the last century. When the two things combine – as they do in Analiza Daran De Guzman’s hands – f**ken magic happens. Check it out.

Yeah, nah, don’t get us wrong, we’re not suggesting that the phone itself is particularly powerful, but when you consider that it’s replaced a s**tload of other technological gadgets – the Walkman, the GPS, the walkie-talkie, and the alarm clock – you can’t help but marvel at just how good it is.

Of course, you might have noticed the invention we missed: the bloody camera. Yeah, nah, only professional photographers, hobbyists and total wankers need to buy an actual camera these days. Now, Analiza, who lives in the Philippines, was without her regular camera when she noticed ants picking up water droplets in her backyard.

‘’Insects move fast, ants particularly,” she reckons. “It is tricky to take pictures with a mere mobile. However, ants stop moving fast when they start to drink water… so I gave them water.’’

The results speak for themselves. The cheeky sheila only went and won an award from photo app Agora for these grouse photos.

As for equipment, she only had her phone and a clip-on macro lens handy. Still, as we said, the phone’s a top-notch invention, and she puts hers to good use.

Final thought: Yeah, nah, we live in a space-age sci-fi future, there’s no doubt about that. If you’ve got a smart phone, bloody get out there and take some great photos of the world around you. And, if you’ve already got some good ones, load up the Facebook comments.
