“The Little Master” Sachin Tendulkar comes out of retirement to represent Australia for charity

Mate, if there’s one thing we’ve come to know in the aftermath of the bushfires that have burned large swathes of our big bewdiful country to the ground, it’s that bloody legends everywhere want to do their bit to help. And let’s be honest, when it comes to the cricket, those legends don’t come much bigger than Indian cricketing legend, Sachin Tendulkar. So when the legendary batsman rocked out in the green and gold for a charity bushfire match, people were bloody stoked.

Obviously, you know about the bushfires. They’ve been f**ked, and the world’s been made aware. But we’re not gonna focus on that right now. Yeah, nah, we’re gonna focus on Tendulkar’s appearance at a bushfire charity match in Melbourne over the weekend.

The man who might be best known as The Little Master, is pretty widely regarded as one of the best to bash a ball over the backyard fence and out for six, so it’s fair to say the crowd was pretty f**ken excited to see the dude make his appearance.

Of course, you might be wondering what exactly drew him out of retirement. Well, the answer’s simple. He was challenged by Australian women’s all-rounder Ellyse Perry to see what he could do when he faced her for an over.

While you might think it’s a bit nerve-wracking to bowl an over to the batsman, Tendulkar wasn’t without nerves himself. Nah, yeah, the legend reckons it was a bit of a daunting task to take the bat again. “I think I was more nervous than (Perry) because I was not sure whether I was going to see the ball or not. I told her that after last evening’s net, I did one throwdown session and I said, ‘I can see the ball but I cannot guarantee whether the ball is going to hit the bat.’ At least I could see the ball and spend some time in the middle.”

Tendulkar knocked the first bowl over the boundary before sending the rest out to the fielders. After the match, he tweeted:

“Competitors on the field, friends off it! Had a lot of fun coming together for a cause like the Bushfire Relief. Happy to have contributed towards the #BigAppeal.”

Final thought: Obviously, this was a great sporting moment, and it shows that it doesn’t matter who you are, you can do your bit to help others in need. Good s**t, Sachin. This Top Bloke Award is all yours.
