Bloody rare gender-neutral bird found in the US

These days, the term gender neutral is pretty bloody common. Yeah, nah, we live in a woke-as-f**k timeline and that’s bloody awesome. People can be who they feel they are, and that’s fantastic. By the same token, so can bloody birds. Yeah, nah, we’ve shared another story in the past about a gender-neutral bird, but you’d better bloody brace yourself, because they’ve found another one. Check it out!

This time, the bird in question is a rose-breasted grosbeak, and it’s a f**ken legitimate bewdy. It was discovered when researchers from the Carnegie Museum of Natural History found it and banded it. The specimen is an example of what scientists call bilateral gynandromorphism. That means the creature is basically male on one side and female on the other.

Male rose-breasted grosbeaks are known for their rosy red plumage while the females tend to have a more subdued brown-orange thing going on. If you’ve put two and two together here, you’ll know what that means. This bird is kinda like Two-Face from Batman. Yeah, nah, it is.

After discovering it, the researchers expressed their excitement to the Museum, who promptly published a statement on the find. It says:

“The entire banding team was very excited to see such a rarity up close, and are riding the high of this once-in-a-lifetime experience. One of them described it as ‘seeing a unicorn’ and another described the adrenaline rush of seeing something so remarkable.”

The statement goes on to say, “They all are incredibly grateful to be part of such a noteworthy and interesting banding record. Bilateral gynandromorphism, while very uncommon, is normal and provides an excellent example of a fascinating genetic process that few people ever encounter.”

Final thought: Yeah, this is pretty bloody fascinating stuff. We love it. As always, it’s worth remembering the world is a weird and whacky place and it takes all-comers. The natural world is full of all sorts of differences, and us humans would do well to remember that. F**k yes, differences. F**k yes!
