Messi’s response to fan asking if he remembers a gift he gave him years ago is gold

Those of you who are familiar with Lionel Messi would have probably heard the phrases ‘little f**ken wizard,’ ‘magical little c**t,’ and ‘skilful little magician,’ used to describe him. Each of those phrases is pretty bloody apt when it comes to describing just how much of a tricky little wanker the talismanic star of Barcelona and Argentina actually is. But how does he do it? This video may just reveal the answer. Cue the Twilight Zone music and buckle in…

Although this world cup so far has only seen flashes of it, there are many who think Messi has a pretty fair claim on the ‘best in the world’ tag. Some take that even further and categorise him as the best ever.

But, despite his bajillion golazos, accolades and trophies, success with his national team, Argentina, has so far eluded him. That simple fact is obviously much to his, and the rest of Argentina’s, chagrin. So when an Argentinian reporter presented Messi with a trinket that his mother had asked him to pass onto the silky b*stard, Messi took it eagerly.

How do we know? Because the evidence is on tape. In an interview recorded right after the Argies secured their spot in the knockout rounds of the World Cup, that same reporter asked Lionel if he still had it.

Before I give you the rundown, there’s a disclaimer: the translation I have for you here comes straight from Reddit. For all I know, the journo could be asking Messi how badly his feet stink. But, it makes for a good yarn so we’re gonna roll with it.

The conversation you’ll see in the video goes like this:

Reporter: “In the first game I gave you something from my mother. I don’t know if you kept it or throw it away.”

Messi: “Look, I have it here.”

Reporter: “What? Are you serious?”

Messi: “Of course.”

Reporter: “You put it in your foot, the band. You put it in your foot?”

Messi: “Yes. So tell her that thank you, that…”

Reporter: “You shitting me. I’m about to have a stroke! For real. But wait! Did you scored with the left?”

Messi: “No, with the right foot, but anyway…”

Reporter: “You scored with your right but it doesn’t matter.”

Messi: “It’s ok. It help me.”

Reporter to the camera: “Dear Mom! He put the band in his foot. Thank you!”

Final thought: Is the talisman responsible for driving Messi to score a pretty f**ken deft goal against Nigeria? Did it, in turn, help the Argies progress to the knockout round when they were up against the wall and staring down a group-stage exit? Who bloody knows? What really matters here is that this f**ken massive superstar is humble enough to take a trinket like that and use it. What a mark of respect for the mother who gifted it to him, and what a sign that the man hasn’t let the fame and fortune go to his head. Bloody good on ya, Messi, ya tricky little wanker. You’re all right!
