Nintendo Has Announced Release Date Details for Mario Kart On Smartphones

From its earliest incarnation in 1992 till now, Mario Kart has always been a massive favourite with fans of Nintendo and the wider gaming community alike.

Now, with news that the stalwart racer is coming to Mobile Phones, everyone will be able to experience the sheer frustration of being taken out by a blue shell just as you’re about to claim victory.

We’ve all been there.

You’ve left Donkey Kong for dead.

You’ve fired a red shell right up Koopa’s scaly asshole and you’ve shrunk Yoshi to size before pancaking the prick and finally, FINALLY, you’re about to clear the track in first place only to hear the incoming sound of a blue shell.

Yep, as a wise man once said, “A whole bunch of bullsh** happens on the last lap,” of Mario Kart. So with the news that it’s coming to phones, I’m really looking forward to seeing people in public lose their sh** when the game shafts them again and again and again.

Anyway, I digress…

Previously, Nintendo has resisted the urge to bring its biggest names to the world of smart phones, so aside from the likelihood of public rage outs, news of Mario Kart’s imminent arrival is exciting because it signals a change of direction for the console giant.

Last year they planned to release five mobile titles, but only released four: Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp, Fire Emblem Heroes, Super Mario Run and Miitomo. It’s safe to say none of those are particularly exciting, but with Mario Kart getting the green light, Nintendo has well and truly joined the race for strong mobile content.

There are rumours of a smart-phone based Zelda coming to town and, presumably, other greats like the fore-mentioned Donkey Kong and more Mario-based content.

As a SNES kid, I’ve since had to rely on emulators for a large portion of my Nintendo-based adventuring but if Smart Phones are going to become the company’s new playing field, that may be about to change.

Nintendo made the announcement via twitter, promising the game would land by March 2019. The game will be called Mario Kart Tour. Let’s hope this one doesn’t get blue-shelled before it hits the Play Store or ITunes.

If you haven’t played for a while, remember the frustration with this video…
